1بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

Translations

वह अपनी बात पर चीं ब जबीं हो गया

'Abasa wa tawallaa.

The Prophet frowned and turned away

2أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

Translations

और मुँह फेर बैठा कि उसके पास नाबीना आ गया

An jaa-ahul 'a-maa

Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].

3وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ

Translations

और तुमको क्या मालूम यायद वह (तालीम से) पाकीज़गी हासिल करता

Wa maa yudreeka la'allahu yaz zakkaa.

But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified

4أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ

Translations

या वह नसीहत सुनता तो नसीहत उसके काम आती

Au yaz zak karu fatanfa 'ahuz zikraa.

Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?

5أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ

Translations

तो जो कुछ परवाह नहीं करता

Amma manis taghnaa

As for he who thinks himself without need,

6فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ

Translations

उसके तो तुम दरपै हो जाते हो हालॉकि अगर वह न सुधरे

Fa-anta lahu tasaddaa

To him you give attention.

7وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ

Translations

तो तुम ज़िम्मेदार नहीं

Wa ma 'alaika allaa yaz zakka.

And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.

8وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ

Translations

और जो तुम्हारे पास लपकता हुआ आता है

Wa amma man jaa-aka yas'a

But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]

9وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ

Translations

और (ख़ुदा से) डरता है

Wahuwa yakhshaa,

While he fears [Allah],

10فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ

Translations

तो तुम उससे बेरूख़ी करते हो

Fa-anta 'anhu talah haa.

From him you are distracted.

11كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌۭ

Translations

देखो ये (क़ुरान) तो सरासर नसीहत है

Kalla innaha tazkirah

No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;

12فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ

Translations

तो जो चाहे इसे याद रखे

Faman shaa a zakarah

So whoever wills may remember it.

13فِى صُحُفٍۢ مُّكَرَّمَةٍۢ

Translations

(लौहे महफूज़ के) बहुत मोअज़ज़िज औराक़ में (लिखा हुआ) है

Fi suhufim mukar rama,

[It is recorded] in honored sheets,

14مَّرْفُوعَةٍۢ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ

Translations

बुलन्द मरतबा और पाक हैं

Marfoo'atim mutah hara,

Exalted and purified,

15بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍۢ

Translations

(ऐसे) लिखने वालों के हाथों में है

Bi'aidee safara

[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,

16كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍۢ

Translations

जो बुज़ुर्ग नेकोकार हैं

Kiraamim bararah.

Noble and dutiful.

17قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ

Translations

इन्सान हलाक हो जाए वह क्या कैसा नाशुक्रा है

Qutilal-insanu maa akfarah.

Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.

18مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ

Translations

(ख़ुदा ने) उसे किस चीज़ से पैदा किया

Min aiyyi shai-in Khalaq

From what substance did He create him?

19مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ

Translations

नुत्फे से उसे पैदा किया फिर उसका अन्दाज़ा मुक़र्रर किया

Min nutfah; khalaqahu faqad-darah.

From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;

20ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ

Translations

फिर उसका रास्ता आसान कर दिया

Thummas sabeela yas-sarah

Then He eased the way for him;

21ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ

Translations

फिर उसे मौत दी फिर उसे कब्र में दफ़न कराया

Thumma amatahu fa-aqbarah

Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.

22ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ

Translations

फिर जब चाहेगा उठा खड़ा करेगा

Thumma iza shaa-a ansharah

Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.

23كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ

Translations

सच तो यह है कि ख़ुदा ने जो हुक्म उसे दिया उसने उसको पूरा न किया

Kalla lamma yaqdi maa amarah.

No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.

24فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ

Translations

तो इन्सान को अपने घाटे ही तरफ ग़ौर करना चाहिए

Falyanzuril insanu ilaa ta-amih

Then let mankind look at his food -

25أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّۭا

Translations

कि हम ही ने (बादल) से पानी बरसाया

Anna sabab nalmaa-a sabba.

How We poured down water in torrents,

26ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّۭا

Translations

फिर हम ही ने ज़मीन (दरख्त उगाकर) चीरी फाड़ी

Thumma sha qaqnal-arda shaqqa.

Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],

27فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّۭا

Translations

फिर हमने उसमें अनाज उगाया

Fa ambatna feeha habba

And caused to grow within it grain

28وَعِنَبًۭا وَقَضْبًۭا

Translations

और अंगूर और तरकारियाँ

Wa 'inabaw-wa qadba

And grapes and herbage

29وَزَيْتُونًۭا وَنَخْلًۭا

Translations

और ज़ैतून और खजूरें

Wa zaitoonaw wanakh la'

And olive and palm trees

30وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًۭا

Translations

और घने घने बाग़ और मेवे

Wa hadaa-iqa ghulba

And gardens of dense shrubbery

31وَفَٰكِهَةًۭ وَأَبًّۭا

Translations

और चारा (ये सब कुछ) तुम्हारे और तुम्हारे

Wa faki hataw-wa abba.

And fruit and grass -

32مَّتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْ

Translations

चारपायों के फायदे के लिए (बनाया)

Mata'al-lakum wa li-an'amikum.

[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.

33فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ

Translations

तो जब कानों के परदे फाड़ने वाली (क़यामत) आ मौजूद होगी

Faiza jaa-atis saakhah.

But when there comes the Deafening Blast

34يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ

Translations

उस दिन आदमी अपने भाई

Yauma yafir-rul mar-u min akheeh

On the Day a man will flee from his brother

35وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ

Translations

और अपनी माँ और अपने बाप

Wa ummihee wa abeeh

And his mother and his father

36وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ

Translations

और अपने लड़के बालों से भागेगा

Wa sahi batihee wa baneeh.

And his wife and his children,

37لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ شَأْنٌۭ يُغْنِيهِ

Translations

उस दिन हर शख़्श (अपनी नजात की) ऐसी फ़िक्र में होगा जो उसके (मशग़ूल होने के) लिए काफ़ी हों

Likul limri-im-minuhm yaumaa-izin shaa nuy-yughneeh

For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.

38وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ مُّسْفِرَةٌۭ

Translations

बहुत से चेहरे तो उस दिन चमकते होंगे

Wujoo huny-yauma-izim-musfira;

[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -

39ضَاحِكَةٌۭ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌۭ

Translations

ख़न्दाँ शांदाँ (यही नेको कार हैं)

Dahi katum mustab shirah

Laughing, rejoicing at good news.

40وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌۭ

Translations

और बहुत से चेहरे ऐसे होंगे जिन पर गर्द पड़ी होगी

Wa wujoohuy yauma-izin 'alaiha ghabar a

And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.

41تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ

Translations

उस पर सियाही छाई हुई होगी

Tarhaquha qatarah.

Blackness will cover them.

42أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ

Translations

यही कुफ्फ़ार बदकार हैं

Ulaa-ika humul-kafa ratul-fajarah.

Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
